      Appalachian Trail - Lehigh Tunnel

This month's Dynamic hike is a really good one. Step onto the fabled Appalachian Trail, and hike up, yes UP, and over the Lehigh Tunnel. We'll do a loop hike on the A.T. and then return via the North Side Trail. The trail is rocky and steep at the beginning and end of the loop. The views are wonderful. After you've stood on top of the tunnel, you'll never drive through it without thinking of the Appalachian Trail crossing above. This is one of my training hikes before I leave for a section hike of the A.T. in central Virginia, and I'd love to have you join me. There are lots of rocks on this trail. Boots are highly recommended. If you are comfortable in hybrid-type trail runners, they would be fine, but sneakers will not do the job for this hike. If you have trek poles, they would be helpful. Pack a lunch and water in a day pack. We'll stop to eat at the top of the mountain before we take on the rocks for the downhill segment of the trail. We'll be meeting at 8:00 a.m. at the Cracker Barrel near Conshohocken just off the Blue Route. From there we can ride share to the trailhead.
