      OperaDelaware- Verdi's Macbeth

OperaDelaware continues its 68th season of Grand Opera on May 5, 10 and 11, 2013, with Verdi's Macbeth, at The Grand Opera House in Wilmington. Performances will be presented with projected English translations, and preceded by a free lecture one hour before curtain, sponsored in part by the Delaware Humanities Forum. For tickets and information contact The Grand box office at 1-800-37-GRAND or go to operade.org.

"We are very excited to return to the Grand Opera House this spring with Verdi's Macbeth, as part of the Year of the Bard festival. It would be almost criminal not to present this masterpiece when we have one of the nation's most exciting Verdi baritones living right here in Wilmington, and I'm looking forward to seeing and hearing Grant Youngblood climb the vocal Everest that is Macbeth" says General Director Brendan Cooke.

OperaDelaware celebrates the 200th anniversary of Verdi's birth, and the year-long Shakespearean Year of the Bard festival in Wilmington, with this production of Macbeth. Macbeth was Verdi's first adaptation of a Shakespearean play with librettist Francesco Maria Piave, and lends itself perfectly to the operatic stage - dealing with the quintessential operatic themes of ambition, power, fate, and violence. Maestro David Lawton, who is the award winning editor of Casa Ricordi's critical edition of Verdi's Macbeth was to conduct these performances until he fell last week and broke his ankle. He will be replaced by Maestro Giovanni Reggioli of Washington, DC. Wilmington resident, and international opera star Grant Youngblood will sing the title role, with Courtney Ames as Lady Macbeth. This production will be directed by Cynthia du Pont Tobias, with sets designed by Peter Tupitza.
