Girls' Night In Philly Book Club: The Confessions of Frannie Langton

This month we're reading "The Confessions of Frannie Langton" by Sara Collins. Gather with other women to discuss the book at Philadelphia’s newest event space, the Deacon! ~~~~~~ We are so excited to hang out at the newest event space, The Deacon! Wait till you see this beautiful space!  A circa 1906 Watson & Huckel designed church is getting new life as The Deacon, a boutique hotel and event space offering a unique, thoughtfully-curated guest experience, designed for a diverse set of occasions, gatherings and creative projects. A small team led by local designer Shannon Maldonado of  YOWIE breathed new life into the gorgeous, Gothic Revival church through mixing modern furniture, pops of color, and tongue in cheek details like like Robert Indiana’s irreverent USA 666 and Tom Palmore’s Snowflake, an enormous lithograph of a white ape. Eight bedrooms flank an open area made for creating memorable experiences. Each room features luxury bedding, Sonos, Wifi and many thoughtfully chosen details. You're likely to notice something different with every visit ~~~~~ We are also grateful to have some treats from the delicious Metropolitan Bakery! The future business partners first met at Philadelphia's pioneering farm-to-table restaurant White Dog Café, where Wendy was managing partner and James the pastry chef. Bonding over a mutual love of food and travel, they lamented how hard it was to find great breads and pastries like those they enjoyed in Europe. So the two friends created Metropolitan Bakery.  Twenty five years later, Metropolitan Bakery has become a Philadelphia institution, with four retail outlets, a café, and a busy online business. Locally, its breads are served in many of the city's finest restaurants—including Barbuzzo, Farmicia, Vernick Food & Drink, Friday Saturday Sunday, Lacroix at the Rittenhouse and Jose Garces’ Volver. Behind the scenes, Metropolitan sources its ingredients from local farmers and other small artisan producers. Metropolitan is also very active in initiatives that directly affect the communities it serves and participates in several training programs providing job skills for low income students, recent parolees and formerly homeless adults. This commitment to community—as well as a unrelenting devotion to quality—is what has made Metropolitan Bakery such a sweet success. We are so grateful for our sponsors this month! We would not be able to do what we do without them every month! Interested in sponsoring food or drinks for a future Philadelphia GNI Reads Book Club?
