Let's Get Comfortable!: Exploring the Intersection of Assistive Technologies and our Sensory Systems with Tracy Lapreziosa, MA, BS, OTR/L Everyone is able to put forth their best effort and attention, if they are comfortable in their environment. Sensory differences sometimes make typical home or work environments uncomfortable for many of us. We all have some degree of sensory difference which can include under-responsiveness or over-responsiveness to various types of sensory input. Come explore the 8 channels of sensory input which impact our ability to function in any given environment. Sensory differences can cause anxiety, discomfort, poor regulation of emotions or motor behaviors, inefficient body positioning for function, decreased attention and focus and safety concerns which effect job performance. How can we recognize when sensory differences are impacting functional performance? How do our sensory system differences effect those around us and vice versa? How does our environment influence our sensory system? Let’s explore simple AT solutions for our sensory differences that we all can make to modify our home and work environments as well as our actions to be comfortable and get our energy flowing in a positive productive direction.
