      How Math Helps Fight Gerrymandering

How Math Helps Fight Gerrymandering Join us at Landmark Americana on Thursday, September 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM for your favorite weeknight science (and math!) event. In 2018, a Pennsylvania court struck down the state’s congressional map due to unconstitutional partisan gerrymandering, and a new map was established in time for the midterm elections.  Recent lawsuits alleging gerrymandering in Wisconsin, Maryland, and North Carolina have also caught the nation’s attention. Join us on September 12th when Dr. Kristopher Tapp, Professor and Chair of the Mathematics Department at Saint Joseph’s University, will discuss the history of gerrymandering and some beautiful new mathematics that helps answers the question: "Is it the map's fault?" Appetizer buffet and door prizes will be included! Be sure to reserve your ticket on the Eventbrite to guarantee a seat. Tickets are going fast!
